Warthog Ivory Tusk // Bottle Opener
Product Description
As one of the only sources of ivory that can be easily exported from Africa, the warthog is highly sought after on many African safaris. The warthog tusk items featured on the African Custom Knives website are gathered by the South African locals, usually after a drought, as sheds, or after a warthog passes from natural causes. It is known that because of its natural fit in the hand, many knifemakers use the warthog tusk to make some of their first knives. The whole tusk can be used on hidden tang knives, or the tusk can be cut in half and pinned to a full tang knife. The latter is the most popular, but it leaves the pointed end of the tusk as a 2-4” piece of scrap.
Although the tusk is hollow, the last couple inches are usually solid ivory. Each Warthog Ivory Tusk Bottle Opener is capped with a titanium plate and polished to a smooth finish. The hardware for the bottle opener is made from stainless steel, and the tusk used on the bottle opener is approximately 4” long. Each finished product is unique and no two are exactly alike.
