Casar de Burbia was founded in the mid-1900s by Nemesio Fernández Bruña in a viticultural haven in northwestern Spain called Vilafranca del Bierzo. The business has stayed in the family ever since and is now headed by Nemesio’s youngest son, Isidro. The roots of Casar de Burbia, both the family ones and those of the vineyards, are deeply linked to this magical territory that is Bierzo.

It is a winery that focuses on the highest expression of its wines, proof of the constant efforts made to capture the essence of the privileged terroir of Bierzo. Their vineyard stretches across more than 50 parcels of land with unique soil types, allowing the winemakers to create innovative, delicious blends from the variety of grapes they grow. Much of the winemaking process is undertaken by hand, making each sip of Casar de Burbia wine the fruit of a labor of love.

Thick, tannic and delicious, with a slight acidic note, which as well as being lively and vivacious, predicts a long cellar life. An intense, clean and direct wine, it opens from the onset in anticipation of the varietal’s full potential. Primary aromas of raspberry and strawberry are accompanied by wood in the form of vanilla but not as the leading component.
